The NEA has released a 250-page report, Artists in the Workforce" that tracks the number of professional artists across disciplines over a fifteen year period from 1990-2005. Not surprisingly, California had the highest number of actors per capita. There's an article in today's New York Times about the report with a breakdown of some of the statistics and a graph of artists by the numbers.
